TriPeaks Solitaire

TriPeaks strategy

In brief

Winning at TriPeaks involves revealing face-down cards as early as possible and conserving the stock: each of its 23 cards can be used only once. Before playing, look for the longest chain; when two cards are playable, prefer the one that uncovers a face-down card. These are tips, not rules.

Reveal face-down cards

At the start, 18 of the 28 cards are face down: you do not know their ranks. Every card turned face up adds an option. When two cards in the bottom row are one rank above or below the waste card, the one that uncovers a face-down card is often the better choice, especially if its neighbor has already been removed.

Look for the longest chain

A removed card becomes the top card of the waste pile: the next card must follow it in turn, one rank higher or lower. Before playing, look at where each choice leads; a chain can go up and then back down.

In the winning game for deal TP1-E-AAAAAAB, 8 cards form a chain right from the start, on the A♣ on the waste pile, from move 1 to move 8: R♣, A♠, 2♦, 3♠, 4♠, 5♠, 4♥, 3♦. The chain goes from King to Ace (Easy rules), climbs to 5, then comes back down.

Stock: 23 cards; waste pile: ace of clubs. Peaks: face-down card, face-down card, face-down card; row 2: face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card; row 3: face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card, face-down card; bottom row: 3 of spades, 5 of spades, king of clubs, 4 of spades, 2 of diamonds, ace of spades, king of diamonds, 8 of hearts, 7 of clubs, 9 of spades.

Deal TP1-E-AAAAAAB at the start: the chain begins with R♣ on A♣.

Drawing at the right time

The app lets you draw at any time, but a card drawn too soon is wasted: it replaces the top card of the waste pile and will not come back. Each draw also costs 1 point. As long as a playable card follows the top waste card, play it first. In the winning game, 22 of the 23 cards in the stock were used: 1 remained at the end.

Aim for the peaks

Clearing a peak earns 100 points, far more than the cost of the moves. The cards at the top only become available after the rows below them have been cleared: working on one peak at a time helps you reach its top before the stock runs out. In the winning game, the peaks are cleared on moves 37, 42, 50.

Kings and Aces in Classic

In Classic mode, a King on the waste pile accepts only a Queen, and an Ace accepts only a 2. This makes a King or Ace covering a hidden card harder to remove: keep a Queen or a 2 within reach. In Easy mode, these cards behave like any other cards again.

Use undo

The app keeps the last 100 actions. When a chain ends too soon, you can go back a few moves to try another card; the card that was turned over becomes hidden again. The move counter, however, keeps track of every attempt.
